π Local Food Picks
- Zheng 228 Chongqing Old Hotpot (Chunxi Road) β Beef tallow base that gets better the longer it boils. Slaughterhouse tripe and fresh duck blood are must-orders. Sesame oil + raw garlic dip is the soul of it.
- Duo Ye Stir-Fried Snails (Yulin Road) β Snails and dry-roast frog, eyes closed, just order. Wok-fired flavor, massive portions, you'll need to be rolled out.
- Street Guokui β Freshly baked, crispy outside, soft inside. Savory sprout + minced pork filling is king. With soy milk for breakfast = perfection.
- Egg Cakes (θηη³) β Β₯5 street stall snacks. Sweet: cream + Oreo. Savory: spicy beef. Both work.
β οΈ Trap Avoidance Guide
- Panda Base: DON'T buy the sightseeing car. Walking covers the core area in under an hour β go early instead.
- Kuanzhai Alley + Jinli: browse only, skip the food stalls. Kuixing Lou Street and Yulin Road are where locals actually eat.
- Hotpot: Don't order "mild." Chengdu mild = outsider medium spicy. If you can't handle heat, say "Guangdong spicy" (εΉΏδΈθΎ£) β they'll understand.
- Museums & Panda Base: book 1-3 days ahead β peak season walk-ups are impossible.
