Day-by-Day Route

3 Days in Chengdu

Day 1

City Center Ancient Vibes & Nightlife

Chunxi Road β†’ Taikoo Li β†’ Daci Temple β†’ Tangba Street β†’ Wangping Street β†’ Jiuyan Bridge β†’ Kuixing Lou Street

Chunxi Road to Tangba Street is all walkable. From Wangping Street onward, take a taxi or transit (Β₯8-15 per leg, 8-25 min each). End the night at Kuixing Lou Street β€” Chengdu's late-night food HQ.

Day 2

Pandas + Culture + Evening Show

Giant Panda Base β†’ Eastern Suburbs Memory β†’ Yulin Road β†’ Wuhou Shrine β†’ Jinli β†’ Wenshu Monastery β†’ Shu Feng Ya Yun (Sichuan Opera)

Panda Base to Eastern Suburbs Memory is about 40 min by subway. After Yulin Road, taxi between remaining spots (Β₯10-18 each). Jinli is right next to Wuhou Shrine β€” walk between them.

Day 3

History & Slow Living

Chengdu Museum β†’ People's Park β†’ Kuanzhai Alley β†’ Du Fu Thatched Cottage β†’ Huanhua Creek Park β†’ Qingyang Palace β†’ Qintai Road

The museum is a 10-min walk from People's Park. Huanhua Creek Park connects directly to Du Fu Cottage β€” walk through. Other segments are short taxi rides (Β₯10-15).

🍜 Local Food Picks

  • Zheng 228 Chongqing Old Hotpot (Chunxi Road) β€” Beef tallow base that gets better the longer it boils. Slaughterhouse tripe and fresh duck blood are must-orders. Sesame oil + raw garlic dip is the soul of it.
  • Duo Ye Stir-Fried Snails (Yulin Road) β€” Snails and dry-roast frog, eyes closed, just order. Wok-fired flavor, massive portions, you'll need to be rolled out.
  • Street Guokui β€” Freshly baked, crispy outside, soft inside. Savory sprout + minced pork filling is king. With soy milk for breakfast = perfection.
  • Egg Cakes (θ›‹ηƒ˜η³•) β€” Β₯5 street stall snacks. Sweet: cream + Oreo. Savory: spicy beef. Both work.

⚠️ Trap Avoidance Guide

  1. Panda Base: DON'T buy the sightseeing car. Walking covers the core area in under an hour β€” go early instead.
  2. Kuanzhai Alley + Jinli: browse only, skip the food stalls. Kuixing Lou Street and Yulin Road are where locals actually eat.
  3. Hotpot: Don't order "mild." Chengdu mild = outsider medium spicy. If you can't handle heat, say "Guangdong spicy" (广东辣) β€” they'll understand.
  4. Museums & Panda Base: book 1-3 days ahead β€” peak season walk-ups are impossible.
ℹ️
Transit tip: Subway + Didi handles everything inside the city. Don't bother with buses unless you enjoy uncertainty.
