Beijing Weekend Highlights

Your 2-day Beijing speedrun — all the essentials, zero wasted time
The Forbidden City — 500 years of imperial grandeur in one walk
Temple of Heaven — Ming dynasty masterpiece under blue skies

Friday Night: Nanluoguxiang & Houhai

Land in Beijing and drop your bags at the hotel. Head straight to Nanluoguxiang — Beijing's most famous hutong street. Grab a bowl of zhajiangmian (Beijing fried sauce noodles) and soak in the atmosphere.

Don't take a taxi after — it's only a 10-minute walk to Houhai Bar Street. Stroll along the lakeside, pop into a chill bar for drinks, and enjoy old Beijing's nightlife with the breeze off the water.

ℹ️
Getting there: Take Metro Line 6 or 8 to Nanluoguxiang Station, Exit E. Or just taxi straight from your hotel.

Day 1: Tiananmen → Forbidden City → Jingshan → Wangfujing

These four stops are all connected on foot — no transportation needed between them. This is Beijing's imperial central axis, and you'll walk it end to end.

⚠️
⚠️ Booking is mandatory!
1. Tiananmen Square: Search "天安门广场预约参观" WeChat mini-program — book 1-7 days ahead. Bring your passport!
2. Forbidden City: Search "故宫博物院" WeChat mini-program — tickets drop at 8 PM, 7 days ahead. Holidays sell out instantly — set an alarm!

Day 1 Route

7:00 AM

Tiananmen Square — Flag Raising Ceremony (Optional)

Arrive early for the sunrise flag-raising ceremony — a once-in-a-lifetime experience. If you skip this, aim to arrive by 8:30 AM.

9:00 AM

Forbidden City — 3 Hours

Enter through Meridian Gate (Wumen). Follow the central axis through the Hall of Supreme Harmony, Hall of Preserving Harmony, and the Imperial Garden. Exit through the Gate of Divine Might (Shenwumen).

12:30 PM

Jingshan Park — Panoramic View

Cross the street from the Forbidden City's north exit. Climb 10 minutes to the summit for the most iconic view of the Forbidden City's golden rooftops — absolutely breathtaking.

2:00 PM

Wangfujing — Food & Shopping

Walk 15 minutes south from Jingshan to Wangfujing Street. Get authentic Peking Duck for a late lunch, then browse the shopping district to walk it off.

Day 2: Summer Palace → Temple of Heaven → Depart

2. Temple of Heaven: Search "天坛公园" WeChat mini-program — book 7 days ahead. Get the combo ticket (联票) to enter the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests.

Day 2 Route

8:30 AM

1:00 PM

Temple of Heaven — 2 Hours

3:30 PM

Head to Station/Airport

Taxi directly from Temple of Heaven to your high-speed rail station or airport. Perfect loop — no backtracking!

Hard-Won Tips

  • 🪪 Always carry your passport/ID. Every single Beijing attraction requires it — forget it and you're stuck outside.
  • 👟 Wear proper sneakers. You'll walk 20,000+ steps each day. This is NOT the trip for fashion shoes.
  • 🍱 Bring snacks into the Forbidden City. Food inside is overpriced and mediocre. Pack water and energy bars.
  • 📱 Download WeChat before you arrive — it's needed for booking tickets via mini-programs.
