The Ratings

1. Terracotta Warriors 🗿 ¥120 — 9.5/10
Absolutely hire a guide! Seeing them in person is genuinely shocking in scale. Without a guide, it's just "cool dirt pit." Museum crowd management is rough — avoid peak holidays. Don't buy jade or "antiques" from nearby vendors.

2. Bell Tower & Drum Tower 🏯 ¥30 each — 8.7/10
Don't bother paying to go up — all the best photo angles are from OUTSIDE. For the Bell Tower, go to the pedestrian bridge at the Bell & Drum Tower plaza for the best night angle. Underwhelming in daylight, stunning at night.

3. Shaanxi History Museum 🏺 Free — 9.0/10
170,000+ artifacts, called "China's treasure vault" — genuinely deserves it. Free tickets but you need to fight for them: book 5 days ahead on WeChat. The self-service audio guide isn't as good as a human docent.

4. City Wall 🏯 ¥54 — 9.0/10
Go around 4-5 PM! Rent a bike and ride into the sunset — incredibly romantic. Yongning Gate night view is beautiful. Full loop is 13 km — if you get tired, just do half. Enter at Yongning South Gate.

5. Tang Dynasty Furong Garden 🏮 ¥120 — 7.8/10
Night light show is pretty, but the ticket price is steep for what you get. Most performances inside cost extra on top. Sparse greenery in winter. Best if you're planning a hanfu (ancient costume) photo shoot.

6. Muslim Quarter 🍜 Free — 6.5/10
Don't go deep into the main drag — it's overpriced, overcrowded, and the lamb skewers are expensive yet dry. Walk 500m in and turn into Sajinqiao or Dapiyan for the real, local food. Roujiamo on the main street? ¥8 overpriced!

7. Tang Dynasty Nightless City 🏮 Free — 8.0/10
Skip daytime — it's dead. Go at night for the lights, street performances, and photos. The merch on the main street is overpriced.

8. Big Wild Goose Pagoda 🏯 ¥30 — 8.0/10
You don't need to climb the pagoda. Better views from Joy City 4F observation deck. The North Plaza has a musical fountain in the evenings — nice atmosphere.

9. Academy Gate 📜 Free — 7.5/10
Great for CityWalk and photography. You can find calligraphy fans, try ink rubbing, and on Wednesday afternoons there's an old gentleman who does custom calligraphy — really special experience. Avoid the "antique" triangle stands on the street — known scam/damage trap.

10. Chang'an Twelve Hours 🎭 ¥120 — 6.0/10
Immersive Tang Dynasty experience with NPC interactions and traditional dance. Great if you're in hanfu. But: heavily commercialized inside and the ticket is pricey.

11. Camel Bell Legend (驼铃传奇) 🎭 — 9.0/10
360° rotating seating, real camels and "wolves" on stage, insane special effects. 60 minutes, tight pacing, engaging for all ages. Platinum seats are the best value. Kids under 1.2m free (lap seat). One of the best live shows in Xi'an.

⚠️
Top 3 money-saving tips: 1) Don't buy tickets to go up the Bell Tower, Drum Tower, or Big Wild Goose Pagoda — the FREE vantage points outside are better. 2) Skip Muslim Quarter main street food — walk deeper to Sajinqiao/Dapiyan. 3) Shaanxi History Museum is free but book WAY ahead.
