Three themed days β€” historical landmarks, Terracotta Warriors, and a citywalk through the old city. Plus the BBQ spot where grillmasters literally walk up to your table.

πŸ’‘
Our 3-day Xi'an trip split into three clean modules: one for historical landmarks, one for the Terracotta Warriors, and one for walking the old city. Nature AND culture, no rushing.

Day-by-Day

3 Days, 3 Themes

Day 1

History Day: Big Wild Goose Pagoda + Shaanxi History Museum

Dacien Temple Heritage Park β€” enter through the South Gate for the famous Buddha + Pagoda photo spot. This park honestly exceeded all expectations β€” massive ginkgo groves in autumn, absolutely stunning. Sat here for 20 minutes and felt my soul being cleansed.

See the Jianzhen & Kukai statues just outside the park, then the Xuanzang statue at the temple entrance β€” perfectly aligned with the pagoda on the central axis, genuinely spectacular in person.

Joy City Mall β€” 4F observation deck (anime IP + pagoda), Gate 3 (red wall + pagoda). Chahuanong milk tea β€” tried almost the whole menu over 4 days: recommend Qianqian LΓΌxue, Fusheng Banri Xian, Meizhan Yao Hong.

Next: Ziwulu Roujiamo (queue king! Β₯12 regular. I actually preferred the cold skin rice noodles β€” the red oil version is spicy-but-not-greasy). Huzi Shuipen Yangrou right next door.

Shaanxi History Museum β€” 170,000+ artifacts, "China's treasure vault." Free but extremely hard to book (practice at 5 PM, morning slots go fastest). The audio guide is fine but a human docent is much better.

Day 2

Warriors Day: Terracotta Warriors + Xuexixiang BBQ at Night

Terracotta Warriors: In person, genuinely jaw-dropping. Hire a guide! Without one, you're literally looking at dirt pits. The museum management is imperfect β€” expect crowds. Avoid holidays if possible.

Evening: Xuexixiang (小学习巷) β†’ An Laohu BBQ β€” This BBQ experience is unforgettable. Staff grill huge skewers and walk around the outdoor seating asking 'how many?' β€” you just grab what looks good, they tally at the end. Dry-roasted tendon, pure lean beef, salt-tendon are all incredible. Pair with fermented rice egg soup, red oil rice noodles, and grilled naan bread. Carb overload never felt so right.

Day 3

CityWalk Day: Morning Market β†’ Academy Gate β†’ Guangji Street β†’ Drum Tower

Morning market for breakfast β†’ Beilin (calligraphy) street shopping β†’ Guangji Street hidden local food gems β†’ Drum Tower for the final look at Chang'an.

ℹ️
Stay near Bell Tower / Yongning Gate β€” central to everything. Detailed route map comes in handy β€” Xi'an's old city is dense and walkable but easy to get turned around in.
