Just Back from Shanghai — Hard Lessons Learned! 😭
12 hard-won tips from a real Shanghai trip — from the Bund's 10pm lights-off to ¥2 ferry hacks, Disneyland hotel picks, and why Tianzifang is dead.
Shanghai Tips
12 Things I Wish I Knew
1️⃣ The Bund lights turn off at 10pm — don't arrive late!
2️⃣ ¥2 Huangpu River ferry — the view isn't as panoramic as cruise boats, but unbeatable value. Take the Dongfu Road or Fuxing East Road ferry.
3️⃣ For Disneyland, stay near Xujiahui — Metro Line 11 goes direct. Way cheaper than Disney hotels.
4️⃣ Use the transit QR code in Alipay — no need to buy single tickets.
5️⃣ Skip the main Bund crowds → go to North Bund — same Pudong skyline view PLUS you can photograph the historic Bund buildings. Way fewer people.
6️⃣ Visit Wukang Building in the morning — afternoon gets packed, night photos don't work. Then walk to Anfu Road, Xujiahui Cathedral and Xujiahui Library nearby.
7️⃣ Great CityWalk streets: Xintiandi, Huaihai Middle Rd, Nanjing West Rd Zhangyuan, Jing'an Temple area, Yuyuan Road — these are the essence of Shanghai CityWalk.
8️⃣ Don't go up Oriental Pearl Tower — the pedestrian bridge outside gives equally good photos. Or try Waitan Yuan (外滩源) for night views.
9️⃣ Tianzifang is dead — barely any shops or people left. Not recommended.
🔟 Everything is reachable by metro — no need for taxis. Rush hour = traffic jams.
1️⃣1️⃣ Visit Yuyuan (City God Temple) at night — you'll see Shanghai's ancient-meets-modern transformation. Don't buy street snacks there, they're tourist traps.
1️⃣2️⃣ Both Hongqiao Station and Pudong Airport have direct metro to downtown — taxis require long queues and waste time.
